Slotted spoon
- 2 cups bread flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons )
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon honey for boiling water
- Optional toppings: sesame seeds poppy seeds, coarse salt
Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
Mix the Dough: Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape Bagels: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 16 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a small ball, then poke a hole in the center with your finger and gently stretch it to form a mini bagel shape.
Boil the Bagels: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bring a pot of water to a boil and add 1 tablespoon of honey. Boil the bagels in batches for 30 seconds on each side, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake: Arrange the boiled bagels on the baking sheet, sprinkle with your choice of toppings, and bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool & Serve: Allow the bagels to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them fresh or toasted with your favorite spreads.
